On January 16, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York an BEAUTIFUL, ANGEL was born by the name of Aaliyah Dana Haughton. Aaliyah was African American descent with Native American heritage from her grandmother. At a very young age Aaliyah was performing at weddings, church choirs, and even charity events. At the age of 5, Aaliyah & her family packed up and moved to Detroit, Michigan. By the age of 10 Aaliyah had appeared on the television show, Star Search & performed in concert along Gladys Knight. At age 12, Aaliyah was signed to Jive Records, where she went on to meant her mentor R.Kelly not only was he her mentor but was also lead songwriter and producer on her FIRST solo album which was titled, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number". The album was released in June 1994 and went on to sell 3 million copies in the United States & was certified double platinum. Along with any successful artist they had to take the bad with the good, the bad that came from this was that it was rumors going around that Aaliyah & R.Kelly were illegal married. Aaliyah ended her contract with Jive and signed with Atlantic Records. In 1996, Aaliyah released her second solo album which is titled, "One In A Million". The album went on to sell over 3.7 million albums in the United States & over 8 million albums worldwide. Aaliyah is someone that the music industry will NEVER FORGET, her legacy is to strong for something like that to even happen.
